As we count down the days to 2023, may we be reminded of what Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, said: “Hold yourselves accountable before you are held accountable and evaluate yourselves before you are evaluated, for the Reckoning will be easier upon you tomorrow if you hold yourselves accountable today.”
Now is the perfect time to reflect on the past year and to set intention for the coming one. Most of us have been preoccupied with work or personal goals or even families – it is fine, totally, because we are social beings. But let us not also forget about our life – the real life, and that is in the hereafter.
We tend to set things aside knowing that we still have tomorrow but do we really have tomorrow? No one knows but Allah ﷻ.
So, let us consciously strive today to make our tomorrow better – deen & dunya-wise!
How do we do it? We can start by:
1. Keeping track of our actions throughout the day
2. Remembrance of Allah ﷻ
3. If you slip up, do not delay tawbah and replace it by good deeds
4. Consistently cultivate the intention to be better
5. Remembering death
May we always be mindful of our actions and May Allah ﷻ keep us firm on the deen.
